Reintroducing Lynx into the wild

really love cats one my favorites is the lynx .I have been told that their are plans to reintroduce them into the wild in the u.k , i have no idea how this would be done but it is an incredible thought that we may one day see them i the wild here.

Knowle Park

In the south east of england where i have lived most of my life their some great places to visit one such place is knowle park situated in sevenoaks in kent and belonging to the natinoal trust is a must do visit the is a large house with loads of history and a huge park where  you can see diverse wildlife but most people see the deer as they nearly always friendly apart from breeding season as my late father found out to his cost, i mean being chased by rather agressive male ,he couldnt site down for a week. we mostly go there  now to photograph deer

What Swallows Feed On

Swallows are now amber listed by the RSPB  numbers are declining for many various reasons changing agriculturing pracitcies in africa and the sahara desert enlarging  along with climate change dry springs dont provide enough soft mud to construct nests and too much heat lead to chicks dehydrating and too longer periods of wet weather lowers the insect life so chicks can starve too death .Swallows feed on the wing so it was quite a shock on inspecting my photos finding on of the birds with what looks like seed in their mouth ,on close observation they seem to be taking seeds into the nest for the young the adult birds can feed their young for up too 400 times a day, so they really have their work cut out Adults returning from migration have been noted recently been returning in quite poor condition and i have witnessed this first hand and takes a while for them to recover from their long migration journey, really dont konw how we can help them but i do know that without the RSPB and BTO these birds would stand no chance at all.

Swallow and House Martins

First of all a warm welcome to my blog this is going to be a start to a journey with photos and words about t swallows and house martins .Over the past nine years i have been blessed to rent a small unit on a large farm in avery beautiful part of kent. This story is about a pair of swallows with interludes about the house martins.Over the last nine years a pair of swallows have returned every year and nested exept last year when they didnt nest owning to the very dry spring we had making the ground too hard to collect and build a nest, but this year things look a lot brighter  for them dispite all the recent rain we have had so it was a thrill to see them return on the 16 may but thats not all by the end of the month they had made not one but two nests in a barn on the farm ,they fly all around my unit zooming to the ground ,in 2010 one flew into the unit and had too wait ages for her to find her way out opening all doors and windows and turning of all lights as the fly towards light sources and adds to the confusion for them she finally exited the building after two half hours wish i had the camera ah to no avail , so now they are going in and out nest and hopefuly see some young ones this year anyway thats it for now until next time

Suprises

I have been watching kingfishers on my local river and its tributaries since 1965 with only short break but nature always presents us with suprises however much we think we know we dont know everything and still have much to learn .On watching my kingfishers have noticed their are two males and one female ,last year the same situation prevailed ,they breed with success dispite losing their nest early in last years season by mink excurverating the nest. I am hopeing this doesnt happen this year as the high rainfall and flooding has created enough havok already ,what i do know is that among the young last year their was a female so was hoping things would be even (ie) two pairs breeding thrie are more than this pair but the others are quite a fair distance from these .

Light Dancing

one of the many things ive learned over the years about photography is light and how light works in relation to cameras and lens . Their are many factors that effect the type of light expereinced mostly  by clouds and their densities johanne wolfgang goethe on a trip to the harz mountains in northern italy in 1855 noticed how sunlight was defused by a hazy mist that layed in the valley defusing the light making the colour look softer, this he called the soft effect.Secondary colour relation of red to green  being prime example, the opposite  he called the powerful effect. On observing a field filled with yellow flowers he noticed the strong contrast between the two colours and called it the powerful effect. Artists like Johann Itten used this concept in his painting technique .You might wonder what  this has to do with photography, well bear in mind that turning light into a colour image whether on film, sensor, or print  work on the same principle that red, green and blue  when light is past through these creates all the other colours hasnt changed.Jesus said while im in the world there is no darkness in him there is no darkness at all,but in this world there is darkness and light exposes the darkness.Getting back to photography in which i am no expert, i have found in that trying to understand how light works and the direction in which it falls on a subject can really make all the differance to a shot. their are fewer things more beautiful to me than a Kingfisher but to capture the complete beauty of this bird a really good understanding of light will help you to capture a more realistic image as the camera and lens will only capture what you tell it to ,but you will never capture a moment entirely as you expereinced it. I have watched kingfishers on my river for over 45 years  and have never tired of seeing them, from that sudden unmistakble pip pip  to seeing them dive and catch a fish.

precious

Kingfishers really are bit special too me, i love all wildlife but their is just something about these birds with me this one is a female  and the differances once reconized are quite distinct the female has dark red beak where as male is black and also the feathers are more aqua/ blue than the male and also more dark terquoise ,the male being a more vivid and stronger blue genrally

Beauty is more than skin deep

people say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but beauty is more complexed than that as a kingfisher depics the closer you look at Gods creation the more i realize just how much i/ we just dont understand
